Brady went to church camp this past weekend over by the lake. This was his first camp to attend where he would stay the night and be away from mom and dad a few days. He had a great time learning about Sin and how you get rid of it.

The church gives out a camper of the year award to the boy and girl camper that they believe deserves it. The church staff and sponsors choose on this and it is based on manners and participation and attitude and other criteria. Brady was chosen this year as the camper of the year for 2010. They announced it at the church service on Sunday morning. He received a very nice MP3 player for this. I am so proud of him. And he was very proud and thankful for the prize!

OKTA Show

The Oklahoma Taxidermy Association held its annual convention and competition at the Crowne Plaza in Oklahoma City on June 24,25 and 26. I will tell you that some of the finest wildlife artistry one will ever see is at this show. A great deal of hard work, time and talent goes into making the animals look real again. I want to say congratulations to all the big winners at the show -- You definitely earned it. To see some of this artistry, you can go to www.oklahomataxidermistsassociation.com and check it out.

I am very appreciative of the OKTA and what it has done for me. This association is all about teaching and advancing the art of taxidermy. I learned some new techniques at the show and am about to start perfecting them in my shop.

Regarding the picture below - This reproduction antler is massive. 209 inches of pure typical madness. I am brainstorming on how I want to mount this deer. I want to get creative with it and show off this bad boy!

Baseball Season about to end

Baseball is almost over and it has been fun. The boys have a had a great time playing this year.

The Oklahoma Taxidermists Association is about to have their convention and competition. I am sure looking forward to going to the show. I enjoy visiting with friends and learning new things in taxidermy.

Brady and Thomas have been busy with baseball. Brady is in coach pitch and Thomas is in t-ball. Both of their teams are doing good. I sure enjoy watching them play.

Basketball Camp

Brady went to basketball camp this week here in Mangum. He received two awards for free shots and speed dribbling.

Lone Wolf Schools

Went to Lone Wolf Schools last week and shared with the elementary students a little bit about the art of taxidermy. I did not know what to expect going there but I have to admit it was a hoot. I took some mounts for them to see. I also brought some glass eyes,earliners, mannikin and a tanned hide along. They loved it when I put the skin over the mannikin to show them how it works. When it came time for questions they sure had some to ask. Believe it or not they were all pretty much good questions. After it was all said and done I am glad I went and I hope that maybe an impression was made on some young students about taxidermy and the outdoors.

Going to Falls Creek this weekend to the men's retreat that the Baptist general convention hosts annually. They invited me to come and set up a taxidermy booth at the retreat.
I am excited to get to go and also to use my new trailer for the first time.
